Signs Your Toyota Hybrid Battery Is Failing — And What To Do
The high-voltage (HV) battery is the heart of your Toyota hybrid. Like any battery, it slowly weakens with age and heat. The good news: it usually gives warning signs before it fails completely. Here are the most common ones.
1. Fuel consumption goes up
A weak battery can't store and give back as much energy, so the petrol engine has to work harder. If you are filling up more often than usual with the same driving, the hybrid battery is one thing to check.
2. The engine runs more often
In a healthy hybrid, the engine switches off at traffic lights and at low speeds. If the engine keeps starting in places where it used to stay off, the battery may no longer be holding enough charge.
3. "Check Hybrid System" or the red triangle warning
A "Check Hybrid System" message or the red triangle (!) warning light on the dashboard is a clear signal. Have the car scanned by a hybrid mechanic. A common Toyota fault code for a weak pack is P0A80 ("Replace Hybrid Battery Pack").
4. Weak acceleration or loss of power
If the car feels slower, especially when climbing or overtaking, the battery may not be giving the electric motor full assist anymore.
5. EV mode is shorter or disappears
Prius and Aqua can move on electric power alone at low speeds. If EV mode only lasts a few seconds, or won't turn on at all, the battery is losing capacity.
6. The battery gauge jumps up and down
If the battery bar on the display goes from full to nearly empty (or the other way) very quickly, one or more modules inside the pack are often weak.
What to do next
- Get a proper diagnosis. Ask a hybrid mechanic to scan the car and test the battery modules. The HV battery is high voltage, so installation and repair should be done by a trained hybrid mechanic.

1. Minyak lebih cepat habis
Bateri yang lemah tidak boleh simpan dan beri tenaga sebanyak dulu, jadi enjin petrol terpaksa bekerja lebih kuat. Kalau anda isi minyak lebih kerap untuk pemanduan yang sama, bateri hybrid patut diperiksa.
2. Enjin lebih kerap hidup
Pada hybrid yang sihat, enjin akan mati di lampu isyarat dan pada kelajuan rendah. Kalau enjin selalu hidup di tempat yang dulu ia mati, bateri mungkin sudah tidak dapat simpan cas dengan baik.
3. Mesej "Check Hybrid System" atau lampu segi tiga merah
Mesej "Check Hybrid System" atau lampu amaran segi tiga merah (!) di dashboard ialah tanda yang jelas. Bawa kereta untuk diimbas oleh mekanik hybrid. Kod kerosakan Toyota yang biasa untuk pek yang lemah ialah P0A80 ("Replace Hybrid Battery Pack").
4. Pecutan lemah atau kurang kuasa
Kalau kereta terasa lebih perlahan, terutama semasa mendaki atau memotong, bateri mungkin sudah tidak dapat membantu motor elektrik sepenuhnya.
5. Mod EV lebih singkat atau hilang
Prius dan Aqua boleh bergerak dengan kuasa elektrik sahaja pada kelajuan rendah. Kalau mod EV hanya tahan beberapa saat, atau tidak boleh dihidupkan langsung, kapasiti bateri sudah berkurang.
6. Paparan bateri naik turun dengan cepat
Kalau bar bateri di paparan jatuh dari penuh ke hampir kosong (atau sebaliknya) dengan sangat cepat, biasanya ada satu atau lebih modul dalam pek yang lemah.
Apa perlu buat
- Dapatkan pemeriksaan yang betul. Minta mekanik hybrid imbas kereta dan uji modul bateri. Bateri HV adalah voltan tinggi, jadi pemasangan dan pembaikan patut dibuat oleh mekanik hybrid yang terlatih.
- Kalau hanya beberapa modul lemah, tukar modul itu sahaja boleh jadi pilihan lebih murah. Lihat modul NiMH 7.2V tunggal kami.
